LRE in High Schools and graduation

HI LRE Members - I posted a recent report to the documents section of our site produced by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The report examines trends of students with disabilities regarding whether they received a regular high school diploma, certificate, or dropped out. In 2005–06, the percentage of students with disabilities exiting school with a regular
high school diploma was 57 percent, an increasefrom 43 percent in 1996–97.
What do you think?

Hi LRE listmembers; The increase gives us hope that through improvement in the offer of FAPE and ITPs for students, the teams at the middle and high school level will thoughtfully plan for an outcome for the student.
There is more work to be done.
Percent Graduate with a regular Diploma in CA
Students with an emotional disturbance (43 percent)
Emotional disturbance 47,519 43.4 9.9 1.2 0.5 44.9 [dropped out] [this is shocking! and needs to be a top priority in research to bring this number down]
Other health impairment 32,274 63.4 11.7 0.6 0.9 23.4 [dropped out] [I found this statistic also alarming and high in comparison, given this catagory accounts for many students with the diagnosis of ADHD.
Percent Graduate with a regular Diploma in CA
California 33,352 59.6 5.4 32.5
Any research or thoughts with regard to the high percentage of students under catagory of emotional disturbance?

Hi, Loni, has any of the research by Larry Kettering applied to the issue of reducing the dropout rate of students with an emotional disturbance? And have you learned anything about effects of effective transition planning on the dropout rates of students with an ED?
